Location

Moscow is the capital of the Russian Federation. The National Research University “Higher School of Economics” (NIU HSE) is an autonomous institution, a federal state higher education institution. HSE was established in 1992, and the current status has been since 2009. The main campus is located in Moscow, three more – in Nizhny Novgorod, St. Petersburg and Perm. For 2018 HSE is in the top three largest universities in Russia and popular Moscow universities. The total number of students and postgraduate students of the university – more than 40 thousand people, about 6 thousand teachers and scientific employees.

HSE’s immersive foundation course is a full-time intensive language course designed to help non-native Russian speakers achieve the proficiency required to study in Russian-taught academic programmes, use Russian professionally at the workplace, and to take Russian language exams.
Incorporating elements of phonetics, grammar, conversational practice, literary reading, and the language of mass media, this language immersion combines a variety of teaching methods to improve students’ speaking, writing, and reading skills. The course is designed to help students reach the level required to pass the First Certification Level (B1 or ТРКИ 1) of the Test of Russian as a Foreign Language, a requirement for enrollment in a Russian-taught university program.

Accommodation types

Students are provided with different accommodation options during their studies:

Accommodation in the hostel – from 1500 rubles per month;
Summer dormitories (summer courses) – from 5000 rubles per month;
Hostels from 8000 rubles per month;
Apartments from 60,000 rubles per month;

Hostel seats are very limited, book the course in advance, preferably 4-5 months before arrival, to submit documents for accommodation in time;

Documents for the university:

copy of the national passport * (valid for at least 18 months from the date the visa started);
copies of documents on previous education indicating disciplines and grades *;
choose the method of receiving the original form of the Invitation (by express mail at the expense of the recipient or through a proxy) (Student invitation)
photos printed 2 pieces (3.5 to 4.5), as well as electronic photographs;
completed application form for registration for the course;
motivation letter;
payment for accommodation (if required by the university);
course payment (if short-term); annual course payment is paid in Russia;
medical insurance (for all days of stay in Russia).

How do I apply for a student visa:

If the course is less than 30 days:
- - High-quality scan of the main page of a foreigner’s passport;
  - Receiving an invitation from the university;
  - Confirmation of residence;
  - Medical insurance;
  - A completed visa application form;
  - 1 photo 3.5 x 4.5 on a white background;
  - Payment of the consular fee (find out the information at the Russian consulate in your country);
  - Other documents requested by the consulate (find out information at the Russian consulate in your country);
If the course is more than 30 days:
- - A passport (valid for at least 6 months from the end of the visa) is submitted to the Russian Consulate in your country when applying for a visa;
  - Receive an invitation from the university (can be issued at least 45 days)
  - An invitation from the university is then forwarded and executed through the FMS of Russia, lines of consideration of the FMS of documents up to 30 working days;
  - Confirmation of residence;
  - Medical insurance;
  - A completed visa application form;
  - 1 photo 3.5 x 4.5 on a white background;
  - Payment of the consular fee (find out the information at the Russian consulate in your country)
  - Other documents requested by the consulate (find out information at the Russian consulate in your country);
